Our organization

 We, the Sociedad Protectora de Animales y Plantas San Francisco de Asís from Andújar, are an animal protecting organization, who take care of the welfare of animals.
Andújar with its 40.000 inhabitants is situated in the region Jaén in Andalucia.

Our organization exists since more than 20 years.
Until the end of May 2008 we were allocated in the perrera of Andújar , in which we rented some kennels/boxes. There we not only took care of our dogs. We also took care, that many dogs from the kennels of the city hall will be saved, which were waiting to be sacrified. We also took care of these dogs, when the official employee was on holiday or did not like to work.
In 2006 we could buy an areal of abour 20.000 m² in the countryside near Andújar, in which we moved with all dogs, which were allocated in the perrera at that time, at the beginning of june 2008.

At the moment our "refugio" has a dog-house with 20 kennels/boxes, some correls - in which our dogs can run and play - and 3 used containers, in which we have our recreation room with kitchen, 2 bedrooms for our volunteers and a bathroom with shower.

We are also planning to build a cat-house, maybe another little dog-house as isolation ward (in which our new dogs can stay until they are examined and vaccinated) and an examination- and operation-room for our vet.

Most of our dogs are from the perrera of Andújar, where they were brought to by their families or hunters.
A lot are from the street, where they lived free until someona called us to pick them up. 
We are searching for families for our animalsin the region or generally in Spain, but we have no great succes in this. Therefore we work together with organizations in foreign countries.

Here in Andújar we are 8 volunteers:
Angelines and her daughter Angelica, Marga and her husband Juanji, Ana and her husband Ricardo, Nuria und Rebeca.

We are taking care of our dogs every day, 7 days a week...and this since years.
What do we do exactly?
We have to clean the kennels/boxes.
 We have to vaccine, feed our animals and treat them with medecine.
 We have to bring them to our vet and have to prepare them for their journey into another country, where they will be adopted.
 We have to bring them to the airport (one trip to Málaga takes 3 hours - one way!).
We have to take pictures of them and write informations.
We have to talk to families, who would like to adopt them or who like to give away an animal.
We have to play with them and a lot more...!!!!! :-)

We also are supported by some german volunteers from Germany, who sponsor and realize our homepage, who traduce our texts and who help us as our german and often english contact persons.
Regularly we get help from partner organizations from other countries, which find families for our animals and which collect donations and material for us.
With this support we made it possible, that no animal was sacrified in the perrera of Andújar since 2 years (!). Unfortunately these animales are now alone.
But we go on trying to do all we can to save them, but we cannot save all.
 
Unfortunately a lot of people are not interested in what we do an a lot are against animal protection. A lot have animals without thinking that these are also creatures. Creatures who suffer from pain...who laugh, when they are happy...who cra, when they are sad...who give their lifes for us, if it's necessary.
