Our
organisation "Sociedad Protectora de Animales y Plantas San
Franciso de Asís" is situated in Andújar , a little city with
about 40.000 inhabitants, which belongs to the province Jaén.
Andújar ist situated 3 hours driving from Madrid and 2,5 hours
from Málaga in the mountains.
We are renting 6-8 shelters in the perrera
of Andújar, in which we can allocate about 10-15 dogs each.
In the other shelters next to ours there is still the climate of
death.
Our dogs are allocated in a safe way and it is not allowed to
kill them. All our dogs are from the perrera or from the street.
If we found a family for one of ur dogs, a dog from the perrera
is allowed to take his seat in one of our shelters.
Therefore we have to talk to the city-hall.
The dogs from the perrera often lived in families before which
change old dogs against new and younger ones, or we catch them
in the streets or hunters bring them to us.
We are 8 people,
working here every day:

Juanji, Ana and her husband Ricardo, Nuria and Rebeca.
Everyday
we are in the perrera - next to our "normal" work – to clean
our shelters, to give them food and love.
The shelters are decorated poorly. The dogs don't have a
roof against rain and sun and they sleep on old wooden
pallets. Blankes would be destroyed in seconds, we
don't have dog's houses and coats for the winter time
against the rain and coolness (which are very important for
Galgos and Podencos).
There are no special shelters for female dogs and their
babies. Babies are living in the bathroom where they are
safed, not to be touched by the other dogs.
Dogs which have social problems could not be allocated
alone, which is a big problem. Eyery day there are biting
attacks.
Especially the galgos have a safety problem in the perrera,
because near situated gipsies like to steal them to use them
for hunting. That's why they are not seen on our adoption
page.
During our daily work, the dogs are allowed to be in the
garden of he perrera to enjoy playing and running together.
And in between we always have time for cuddling.
While in the shelters of the perrera the other dogs are sad.
We
prepare the dogs before the adoption, drive them to
the vet and hold contact to our partner organisations in
Germany (adoptions in Germany are very rare), which
find nice families for our dogs.
After the reservation from Germany we bring our dogs – some
of them live here for more than 2 years - to the airport, to
send them personally to their new homes.

Our dream to
build an own private animal home for our animals will be
realized soon.
In 2005/2006 we could buy a huge area, which we directly
fenced.
The cost to realize our paradise will be around €
250.000,- , which we could not afford by our own.
We planned a office building with veterinarian hospital,
shelters for dogs and cats and a animal residence with free area
for running and playing.
When the
cunstruction is finished we will also have coste for the
interior and some employees.
We have to buy a new car to transport the animals. And
credits for the construction have to be paid in future time.
So, the help for foreign countries is very important for
us.
